The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School is a public high
school founded in Bushwick, Brooklyn in 2003. Our mission is to use New York’s maritime experience to create a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum that instills in its students the ethic and skills of stewardship.
We believe that the natural resources of New York Harbor and the New York metropolitan community together form an untapped potential for excellence in secondary public school education. Our challenge is bringing New York’s rich maritime experience to the students in the classroom and extending the classroom to include these resources.
Harbor School moved to Governors Island in September 2010 where we are able to offer more of the on-water programming around marine science and technology central to our mission. With your help, we hope to continue to become one of New York City's most exciting and effective high schools.
