DJ Professor Groove (11:15-12:15 PM) began honing his skills mixing funk on Montreal radio station CKUT in1996. Fast forward through hundreds of radio show sessions, club residencies including Montreal's long-running Rockdeep Tuesdays, DJ tours through the US and Europe, and a decade of digging ever-deeper into the rich earth of funk music—in 2010 the funk flows stronger than ever through the Prof's fingers.
Part P-Funk, part Punjabi-Funk, BlackMahal (12:15-1:15 AM) is a San Francisco-based live music experience complete with drums, DJs, horns, hip-hop MCs, and the godfather of Punjabi-American music – Ustad Lal Singh Bhatti. BlackMahal is steeped in Old California, a Punjabi-American experience that started in the 1890s when the first Punjabi-Americans settled in the Great West and forged a new identity combining elements of Mexican and African-American influence.
