BROKEN RECORDS
Broken Records formed in Edinburgh at the end of 2006 and were immediately tipped for greatness by the UK press – a series of three independently released singles released in 2008 led NME to call them “an incredible proposition – set to go stellar as soon as they decide on a lucky label to sign to." Their second disc Let Me Come Home is just out on 4AD. “Let Me Come Home turns the mundane into the majestic thanks to the Edinburgh sextet’s sheer force of will. Words like ‘epic’, ‘inspiring’, ‘Arcade’ and ‘Fire’ are horribly overused, but in this case they’re hard to avoid, because Broken Records just … try so hard. And their endeavours, it’s a pleasure to report, pay off. ... It’s stirring and cinematic, sure, but not in the way that most indie bands who introduce a string section expect to be called stirring and cinematic – it’s because they have written some staggeringly graceful songs and recorded them with the reverential care of a new father cradling his heir. There aren’t many bands who can pull that off, by the way. In short, Let Me Come Home exists in a world where awe is quiet and reverential, not something to be shouted in capital letters and exclamation marks. It is an elegant and, quite frankly, utterly beautiful record." --NME

US ROYALTY
From the bluesy swagger of the album opener “Hollywood Hollows” to the soaring, Washington Irving inspired anthem “Equestrian,” it is evident that MIRRORS, the debut full length from U.S. Royalty, is an album of grand scope and range. It is a document of exploration and discovery. Songs kindle a spectrum of locales as the band laces a thread of longing and movement throughout the entire album to create a cinematic experience. MIRRORS is a cohesive and unified collection. Shared experiences, traveling and playing together, informed the writing process as did a steady intake of Kubrick, Godard, McCarthy, and Spaghetti Westerns. The sun-bleached Ennio Morricone soundtracks factored heavily into the scope and range of MIRRORS as the band channeled the sense of epic drama his most memorable pieces evoke - those timeless studies in tension and release. "U.S. Royalty is (fittingly) a Washington, D.C.-based outfit that specializes in swaggering, soul-infused indie rock; imagine Cold War Kids if you replaced their pseudo-gospel sermonizing with dizzily descending guitar lines and a brighter outlook on life." --Spin.com
