Join us as we host the Harvard Business School regional finals event at BetterWorks this Tuesday night 3/29 at 7:30pm. There are three finalists (WikiPay, Booster Pro & Key Info) who will present to a panel of judges (details below). You may have met two of the founders of one of the finalists during CEO poker at BetterWorks a few weeks ago – WikiPay was tearing it up at the tables.
We're expecting ~30 folks ; enjoy good booze and smart presentations. You’re all invited to attend. It’ll be a fun entrepreneurial event which will go from 7:30pm until 10pm.
Meet the Judges:
Nelson Cheng: Nelson is a former Product Manager for Google and Amazon.com with experience in product development, strategic planning, and marketing. He currently is an advisor to tech startups including Signpost and Miso Media, both backed by Google Ventures.
Ed Fu: As an Associate at Rustic Canyon Partners, Ed works with seed and early stage consumer web and clean technology companies. Prior to joining Rustic Canyon in 2010, Ed was an investor at Technology Crossover Ventures, where he focused on investments in the Internet and software sectors. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School.
Eva Ho: Eva currently is the VP of Marketing and Operations at Factual, a company focused on providing simple open data APIs for developers to build web and mobile apps. She also serves as the Executive Director of Whole Child LA, a non-profit clinic in LA that treats children with chronic pain using integrative methods. Prior, she was a Senior Product Marketing Manager at Google and Youtube for 5 years. Prior to Google, Eva was the head of marketing for Applied Semantics, a company that was sold to Google in 2003. Additional past employers include The Wilkerson Group, Procter & Gamble and IBM. Eva holds an MBA from the Cornell University Johnson School of Management as well as an AB in Biology from Harvard University.
Rajeev Kapur: Rajeev is the founder of Greenwala, a recently launched social networking site focused on green/sustainable topics. Previously, he was the President of SmartLabs, a leading electronic home automation company, and the General Manager of Dell South Asia, where he maintained full operating, financial, strategic and P&L responsibility for $400 million computer systems business across the region. Rajeev is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, appointee to the City of Irvine Green Ribbon Environmental Committee and is a member of TiE.
Stephan Paternot: Stephan is co-founder and Chairman of Slated. Founded in 2009, Slated is a leading data and technology company for the film industry. Stephan is also co-founder and Chairman of PalmStar Entertainment. Founded in 2004, the film production company specializes in literary adaptations and true stories. Stephan is also the founder and general partner of the Actarus Funds. Founded in 2002, these angel investor funds provide seed capital to Internet start-ups. Prior to this
he cofounded one of the first Internet community sites, theglobe.com in 1994. The company set stock market history when it went public in 1998 with a record setting IPO pushing the company valuation to over $1 Billion. Over a six-year span the company grew to over 300 employees with the website becoming one of the top thirty most trafficked sites in the world with nearly 10% of all internet users visiting the site monthly. In 1999 Stephan won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and in 2001 published “A Very Public Offering”, a non-fiction business book detailing his experience at theglobe.com. Before founding the company Stephan attended Cornell University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Stephan grew up in Switzerland and the United Kingdom before attending college in the United States. Beyond his duties at the Actarus Funds, Stephan sits on the board of the Heineman Foundation, based in New York, and on the board of its sister organization the Heineman-Stiftung, based in Berlin. The aims of the foundations are to give financial support to educational, artistic, cause based and scientific non-for profit institutions. Stephan also sits on the board of the Independent Filmmaker Project IFP.org, the largest national non-for profit organization dedicated to supporting independent filmmakers. Stephan resides between New York City and Los Angeles.
Peter Cowen: Peter is a Senior Partner of GroundWork Equity, LLC. He specializes in assisting local emerging technology and scalable service companies with strong growth potential. During his career, he has advised more than 200 startups, helped raise over $150 million for early stage businesses, taken executive operating positions, hired key executives, advisors and board members, as well found investors for these ventures. Named by the Los Angeles Business Journal as one of the top 25 angel investors in Los Angeles, Mr. Cowen has invested in more than 30 companies and served on over a dozen Board of Directors. He was a founding member of the Tech Coast Angels (TCA), Los Angeles. TCA is the largest angel investing group in the country.
Seth Berman: Seth is an active angel investor who focuses on consumer facing, SaaS, enterprise, big data and mobile technology. He has also handled strategic marketing for The Richemont Group since 2004 until present. Mr. Berman uses non-traditional marketing tactics to grow brands by creating cultural awareness and purpose behind Richemont products. His previous experience includes launching Formula 1 Racing in the United States and working at the talent management company The Firm.
