Its been 5 years since the cameras started innocently rolling in a brownstone in Bed-Stuy capturing 30 amazing women and trans people of color working together to create what hadn't existed at the time. Our image. LOVED, CANDID AND COMPLEX.
U People was born in 2008 and no crowd since has remained seated once the credits rolled. It has been seen around the world and is presently broadcast on LOGO. It was the first LGBT film to be screened at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis and has been a giant force for for change, affirmation and support for both young and old, white and black, gay, trans, bi and straight. It is a cinematic document of our time and hopes for the future.
Join both of its directors Hanifah Walidah and Olive Demetrius for the Harlem debut of U People at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture with a scheduled talkback.
