Use Kripalu Yoga (gentle to moderate) to open your mind to mediation and observation through movement; enter life drawing to explore beauty and the meditative joy of drawing.
The yoga style Imei teaches is Kripalu Yoga, known for being gentle, meditative, and activating your own body's "wisdom", in that the body was meant for movement, and knows what it likes. Imei will be doing a pranyama section, exploring different kinds of breath work to open the mind, and a 10 minute shavasana (rest pose) session at the end, to promote meditation. All asana (postures) can be modified for various challenges and flexibility; newcomers to Yoga are welcome.
Doug says: "This idea came from a conversation between Imei and I about how much BETTER I draw after yoga class. She teaches yoga, I host drawing, so it's one of those chocolate-peanut butter scenarios."
We think it's the perfect artistic union.
If you've never been to the Old Rainier Brewery, don't worry. We will give you information on how to access the building and our floors on the day of the event. Parking is free, and we're just a five minute walk from the SODO light link rail station, and 700 ft from the nearest Metro bus stop (131).
Both classes are FREE of charge; donations are welcome (donations for Yoga class will go to Doctors Without Borders, Japan disaster relief).
For Yoga class: bring your own mat, water bottle, comfy clothing. Please note: Imei has a cat, and Doug has a dog.
For drawing class: TBA. If you have your own drawing pad, portable desk, or easel, feel free to bring what you have. Room can fit up to 25 people.
Please RSVP on this page to let us know what you'll be attending (Yoga, drawing, or both).
