Den 21-24 juli 2010 samlades drygt åttahundra personer i Norberg för Queertopiafestivalen 2010, den första festivalen arrangerad av Kulturföreningen Queertopia och den första queerfeministiska kulturfestivalen med camping i Europa, någonsin. Festivalen samlade kring sjuhundra besökare, ett åttiotal funktionärer, ett trettiotal arrangörer och hade ett sjuttiotal programpunkter med deltagare från hela världen som presenterade musik, scenkonst, performance, film, konst, föreläsningar och workshops.
I januari i år tog en ny grupp inom Kulturföreningen Queertopia över arrangemanget av festivalen. Med en queerfeministisk utgångspunkt vill vi visa på hur en queer utopi kan se ut och erbjuda våra besökare ett brett utbud av queer kultur i olika uttrycksformer. Vi ser att festival-Sverige domineras av ett homogent utbud baserat på hierarkiska strukturer där vissa uttrycksformer premieras före andra, vissa könsidentiteter tillåts ta mer plats än andra och där endast vissa identiteter tillåts vara representerade. Detta var särskilt tydligt i förra årets kvoteringsdebatt i festivalrapporteringen. Queertopia ska vara motvikten mot dessa festivaler, Queertopia ska vara fristaden där alla identiteter tillåts blomma ut utan risk för repressalier och Queertopia ska vara utopin som visar vägen för andra festivaler – för vi vet att utopier inte är omöjliga, det är bara en fråga om tid.
Vi använder oss av likalön för alla bokningar, vi har ett program som är jämnt fördelat mellan olika uttrycksformer och identiteter, vi arbetar utifrån en Safer Spaces/Tryggare Platser-policy, vi arbetar för att skapa ett tillgängligt festivalområde där alla har möjlighet att delta, vi har olika priskategorier på våra biljetter för att öka möjligheten för att så många som möjligt ska kunna delta i festivalen, festivalen arrangeras av tio öppna arbetsgrupper där alla är välkomna för att motverka en hierarkiskt uppbyggd organisation. Detta är några punkter som visar på hur vi praktiskt försöker skapa en queerfeministisk utopisk kulturfestival.
Tillsammans skapar besökare, bokningar, funktionärer och arrangörer utopin – Queertopia är både inspirationen, plattformen att fylla och utopin i sig på en och samma gång. För två månader sedan var frågan om Queertopia 2011 överhuvudtaget var möjligt. Nu tvekar vi inte längre, med all pepp och kärlek vi hittills mött på vägen vet vi att vi tillsammans kan skapa en fantastisk festival – om mindre än fem månader kommer Norberg fyllas av queertopianer från hela världen. Utopier är inte omöjliga, det är bara en fråga om tid.

Queertopiafestivalen, founded by the Culture Association Queertopia, was arranged for the first time in July 2010 and gathered slightly more than eight hundred people. Queertopiafestivalen is the first and only queer festival in Europe that offers a campsite. The festival gathered around seven hundred visitors, around eighty functionaries, thirty arrangers and had about seventy events, with participants from around the world presenting music, theater, performance, film, art, lectures and workshops.
With a queer feminist point of departure, Queertopia wants to demonstrate how a queer utopia might look like and offer our visitors a wide range of queer culture in various forms of expression.
We see that Sweden's festivals are dominated by a homogeneous selection based on hierarchical structures in which certain forms of expression are encouraged before others, certain gender identities are allowed to take more space than others, and where only some identities are allowed to be represented. This was particularly evident in last year's quota debate in the festival reports. Queertopia shall be the counterweight to these festivals, Queertopia shall be the counterweight to these festivals, Queertopia shall be the refuge where all identities are allowed to flourish without fear of reprisals and Queertopia shall be the utopia, leading the way for other festivals - because we know that utopias are not impossible, it's just a matter of time.
We use equal pay for all bookings, we have a program that is evenly distributed between the various manifestations and identities, we are working from a Safer Spaces / Safer Places policy, we are working to create an accessible festival area where everyone has the opportunity to participate. We have different price categories for our tickets to raise the possibility that as many as possible can participate the festival. Queertopiafestiaveln is arranged by ten open workgroups where everyone is welcome to counteract a hierarchical organization. These are some points that show ways of how we try to create a queer feminist utopian cultural festival.
Visitors, bookings, functionaries and arrangers all combine to create the utopia - Queertopia is the inspiration, the platform to fill and the utopia itself at the same time. Two months ago the question was whether Queertopia 2011 even was a possibility. Now we do not hesitate anymore, with all the pep up and all the love we have met on the way, we know that together we can create a fantastic festival - in
less than five months Norberg will be filled by queertopians from around the world. Utopias are not impossible; it's just a matter of time.
