The first book of it’s kind, Nevada Rose is the result of 5 years of
living in and photographing every legal brothel in the state of Nevada. 160 pages with 189 images, the book includes essays by Patty Kelly and Marc McAndrews and an interview with Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlight Bunny Ranch from the HBO series ‘Cathouse’.
Dennis Hof, and selected women from the Bunny Ranch and myself will be on hand to sign books.
An exhibition curated by Humble Art Foundation’s Jon Feinstein will accompany the release of the book.
From the Nevada Rose press release:
“Scattered around the state of Nevada in little, unassuming desert towns, prostitution is thriving. This extraordinary body of work takes us through the peephole into the legal, albeit secretive, world of fantasy and theater of the country’s only legal brothel system. Nevada’s “ranches” are in and around towns with folksy names like Pahrump, Ely, Carson City, and Scotty’s Junction. The brothels have equally charming sobriquets: The Black Pearl, Stardust Ranch, Chicken Ranch, and Inez’s Dancing and Diddling.
With an essay by award-winning anthropologist Patty Kelly and an interview with the Bunny Ranch’s Dennis Hof by Bill Higgins, Marc McAndrews’ riveting five-year long journey rolls back the curtain of sex to reveal a world of brothel life rarely discussed: the madams and the managers, the cooks and the laundry maids; the kitchens and laundry rooms, the lounges, the timers, the bedrooms and even the pets.”
