The RELEASED SERIES at the WORKERS CLUB

The Workers Club presents a side to the local and independent music and arts community rarely publicly celebrated or acknowledged….
The Independent Record Label!
In today’s heady climate of ups and downs of the record-selling industry, these people are some of the hardest working and often under-appreciated pioneers, music obsessives and passionate music lovers out there.
We think that’s worth celebrating, and are proud to present a series of nights entitled the ‘Released Series’ specifically to acknowledge these local and 100% independent labels, with each night personally curated by the person (or people) behind the labels, showcasing their respective label’s favourite bands, artists and DJs each week.
As part of the ‘Released Series,’ the Workers Club will be running the ‘Released Record Stand,’ a half venue-half independent record store, erecting a pop-up record stand each week giving all labels involved the opportunity to have their releases available for sale not only on the night of their curated show, but for the duration of the series.
The first round of announced labels is:

BEDROOM SUCK RECORDS presents
BEDROOM SUCK RECORDS equals three dudes in a dirty house in inner city Brisbane. With not much else to do in the oppressive heat of a deadbeat culture, these guys decided to pool their resources and get some of the great shit happening around them to a wider audience. They have since released wax from the likes of BLANK REALM, KITCHEN'S FLOOR, SLUG GUTS and PER PURPOSE, as well as putting out their first international effort, a sweet 7" of pop shit from Boston kids FAT HISTORY MONTH.
BEDROOM SUCK have recently made their mark on Brisbane by kicking off their series of DEADSHITS! festivals, mini-fests held over one night in Brisbane and featuring some of the country's best acts. The first two installments have included the likes of CIRCLE PIT, BOOMGATES, BLANK REALM, BITCH PREFECT, HOLY BALM, ASSASSINS 88 and more. BSR have also booked shows for international acts like THEE OH SEES as well as the upcoming EAT SKULL tour (catch 'em at The Worker's Club SATURDAY APRIL 16!).

AARGHT! RECORDS presents
Aarght! Records began in 2007 by three members of the Ooga Boogas - Mikey Young, Per Bystrom and Richard Stanley. The label reached its apotheosis later that year with the addition of legal counsel Jonathan Wilmott of Wilmott & Wilmott Solicitors. Mikey Young has since departed, reasoning that Eddy Current Suppression Ring are now making so much money there is no point sharing it with three people who, quite frankly, were riding his coat-tails and slowing him down. He will no doubt rejoin the fold when the music industry has chewed him up and spat him out. We will of course be humble in considering his application to rejoin the label.

CHAPTER RECORDS presents
Chapter Music is an independent record label that began in Perth, Western Australia in June 1992, after a few issues of a fanzine called Chapter 24 that started in October 1990. First a small-run cassette label documenting the Perth underground, Chapter slowly grew into a continent- and decade-spanning enterprise that takes in Australian archival post-punk, Japanese psychedelia and American avant-garde folk music, as well as continuing to document new Australian music.

DEPARTED SOUNDS presents
Departed Sounds is a new independent record label based in Melbourne, Australia. It was formed in late 2008 by two friends, Ashley Sambrooks of Melbourne publicity outlet Show Off Services and Andrew Keese of Melbourne band Andrew Keese & The Associates. Created during the peak of chaos and confusion within the music industry, and partially as a response to the disparate nature of the traditional record label/artist relationship, Departed Sounds represents a new and extensive effort to bring together business and art without sacrificing one for the other.

LOST & LONESOME presents
The Lost And Lonesome Recording Co. was created in 1998 by Mark Monnone and Jane McCracken as a disorderly way to release music by their friends' awesome bands. Initially operating more like a boondoggle hobby or community-based experiment, the balance has slowly tipped, and — inspired by such Australian labels as Candle Records and Chapter Music — L&L has slowly morphed into a Trojan Horse-like powerhouse, unlikely to stop until the world feels the full thrust of some lovely indiepop tunes.
Here's a quick look at our protagonists; past, future and present:
The Aislers Set, The Bank Holidays, Bart & Friends, Cryptacize, The Curtains, Fibrotown, The Foots, Fred Astereo, Hellogoodbye, Je Suis Animal, Lacto-Ovo, The Ladybug Transistor, The Lucksmiths, Mid-State Orange, The Mosquitoes, Nedelle, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Francis Plagne, The Salteens, Sleepy Township, The Smallgoods, Kirsty Stegwazi, Still Flyin', YellowFever, The Zebras!
