For the second year in a row The Global Theatre Project will participate in celebrating the birth of William Shakespeare with our friends in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England. Last year we staged and filmed a nine language balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet in a palazzo in Florence, Italy.
But this year we do it LA Style!
On the morning of April 16th at Los Angeles Theatre Center we invite theatre artists and residents of Los Angeles to celebrate our city and share our talent and diversity with the world by joining together in a group performance of a ‘new’ piece of theatre: the ‘Double Double Sonnet Project’ which combines the witches scene from Macbeth with one of the most beautiful love sonnets of all time. The event will be filmed and sent to England to be a part of their festivities on April 30th.
How does this work? Well, if you are young or old, come from any ethnic background, any religious background, are of any sexuality, speak English or DON’T….. join us!
If you represent the theatre community in this city either as an independent artist or affiliated …. join us!
If you are a teacher or teaching artist and are looking for a unique and fun thing for your students: children, teens, adult, ESL or seniors to do…. join us!
If you believe in community, want to have a creative experience with HUNDREDS of other Los Angelenos…. join us!
If you want to see this work on YouTube and share it with your friends and colleagues…. join us!
If you want to perform in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England without having to pay for the airfare…. join us!
If you want to help us break the Guiness book of world records for largest cast ever to recite a piece of Shakespeare…. join us!
This event is open to the public. There will be rehearsals scheduled the week of April 11th. If you can’t make the rehearsals, then simply come to the event! We will rehearse that morning and want you with us! Everything will be done with script-in-hand.
