The Academy of the Sacred Heart’s athletic booster club, ASHletics, will sponsor the Heart of Oak Vicki Oakley Memorial 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Run. Proceeds will benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and the Academy’s athletic programs in memory of coach and educator Vicki Oakley.

In her 15 years at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Ms. Oakley served as a faculty member, chair of the Physical Education department, and Varsity Lacrosse coach, leading the team to seven state championships. She died February 13, 2010 following an 18-month battle with ovarian cancer.

The event will begin at the Field House. The 5K route loops through Bloomfield Township, while the One Mile Fun Run, for ages 10 and under, uses the cross-country course on the school’s 44-acre campus. Registration begins at 1 p.m. The day will also include door prizes, T-shirts, concessions, and awards presented by age group. Computerized timing and race management will be provided by Hanson’s Race Management.

To register, please visit http://www.ashmi.org/oak . The entry fee is $20 for the 5K event on or before May 7, or $25 thereafter. The fee for the One Mile Fun Run is $10. All participants should register by May 7 in order to guarantee receipt of a T-shirt.
