As an organization, Velo City's overarching goal is to increase diversity in the urban planning, transportation and architecture professions by raising the awareness of these fields amongst youth through cycling.
Last year, Velo City ran a successful summer pilot program based out of East River Park in the Lower East Side called Bikesplorations. Each Saturday, Bikesplorers were introduced to diverse urban planning topics that ranged from public space, environmental justice, and affordable housing.
At their final presentation, our Bikesplorers led a neighborhood bike tour of the Lower East Side and Chinatown where they spoke to the community about the impact of the program in their lives and how they learned to advocate for changes they would like to see take place in their neighborhoods.
This summer we are bringing Velo City's Bikesplorations program to youth living in the Soundview community of the Bronx. We are excited about the prospect of working in the Bronx, but, we can not do it without your support.
We hope you can come out to our fundraiser and help us spread the word. If you cannot make it, but would still like to contribute, purchase tickets by clicking on the link below:
