On October 17 - World Poverty Day we will attempt our next blackout of facebook by blacking out all the profile pics on facebook. We will also blackout our pics on World Malaria Day - April 25. This will be done to draw attention to the one million faces every year that die from malaria and to draw attention to the fact that malaria is a circular disease of poverty. It causes poverty and is caused by poverty.
SHOW THE WORLD WHAT ONE MILLION FACES DYING OF MALARIA EVERY YEAR LOOKS LIKE AND DEMONSTRATE YOUR COMMITMENT TO END POVERTY.

WHY CONNECT MALARIA AND POVERTY?
UN economists identified malaria as one of the top four causes of poverty. Every year it kills > 3 million people and is estimated to cost the African economy $30 billion per year (more than 500 million per year get malaria).
Professor Jeffrey Sachs (read the End of Poverty) believes ending malaria is the most important priority in lifting Africa out of poverty.
"Comprehensive malaria control in Africa is achievable by 2010 at the minimal cost of US $3 billion per year. Millions of lives can be saved, and Africa will be given vital help in escaping from the vicious cycle of poverty and disease that continues to grip the continent by saving the $30 billion per year that it loses in productivity and medical costs every year.
By joining malaria and poverty together we aim to educate people around the world of this vicious cycle. The comments below indicate people need to be educated about this connection. Black profile pics are used because they provoke interest and awareness.
One example of the nefarious connection between malaria and poverty is the sale of bad drugs to poor people. It is estimated by the WHO that 20% of the people who die from malaria, die because they took bad drugs. To learn more about this problem visit

and sign the petition to say NO MORE BAD DRUGS FOR POOR PEOPLE.
Please make sure to join the One Million Faces Against Malaria cause -

Join Malaria No More by adding your name to the millions of people worldwide who refuse to accept a single death from malaria. On April 20, United Against Malaria will deliver a strong message to world leaders asking them to support full funding for malaria prevention and treatment to end malaria deaths in Africa by 2015. We need your help
