Great Lakes Urban Exchange (GLUE)
GLUE's 4th Annual Conference will convene diverse young leaders from Rust Belt cities in Pittsburgh for three days, where they will develop relationships, share ideas, and use Pittsburgh's progress as a lens to understand their own cities' evolution.
GLUE has spent the last three years building a multi-sector network of civically engaged, younger urban-dwellers who are devoted to making their post-industrial city work. GLUE is therefore uniquely positioned to use its conference to connect those engaged change agents from the cities of the Upper Midwest to one another for idea and information-sharing. GLUE’s Pittsburgh-based fourth annual conference will be the first time GLUE takes its gathering out of the downtown corridor and into a particular community. While previous conferences explored a number of neighborhoods that have seen their share of disinvestment, innovation, or both, GLUE4 will revolve around the challenges and transformation of one Pittsburgh community: Larimer. This change is a response to the feeling that previous conferences could have done even more to contextualize policy conversations in a particular place, as well as to bridge gaps between policy per se and the actual community members most affected by it.
We need your help to define the theme of this conference. Our host committee has talked about wanting to feature: the promise of green jobs, the importance of unlikely collaborations, the centrality of water on a local and regional level, broader definitions of "healthy neighborhoods," and fatigue with being told that our neighborhoods are "vacant."
What would YOU name this conference? Share your ideas here as you put the dates on your calendar. Don your thinking caps, as a GLUEy prize--and bragging rights--will be awarded to the winner of our "name this conference" contest!
