Minnesota Public Radio presents SCORE! with Chan Poling at the Fitzgerald Theater on Saturday, May 21st at 8:00 p.m.
Do you love the wonderful feelings that spring up from your favorite evocative film scores? Join us for a wonderful mixed bag of film music with Emmy-winning Chan Poling. Chan has assembled an amazing cast of musicians including Jeremy Messersmith, Lucy Michelle, and Janey Winterbauer as well as a wonderful chamber music ensemble to sing and play his favorite groovy and romantic film themes that influenced him as he grew up, stretching from 1960's nutty French and Italian films to hauntingly beautiful themes from David Lynch and Carter Burwell.
Chan Poling's alternative rock band, “The Suburbs”, became a touchstone of the 1980's "Minneapolis Sound" and was voted among the “100 Most Influential Minnesota Musical Entities of the Twentieth Century” by The Minneapolis Star Tribune. The Minnesota Music Awards honored him with the lifelong POP (Perpetually Outstanding Performer) Award. He has scored several award-winning (Emmy, CINE Golden Eagle, etc.) independent films. His theater credits include several scores for the Tony Award ® winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune to the recent pop musical "Venus" and the critically acclaimed musical "Heaven" recently seen at the Guthrie Theater. Mr. Poling’s popular cabaret trio The New Standards are regulars at clubs and theaters around the world and perennially fill the Fitzgerald Theater with their Annual New Standards Christmas Show.
