Sorrowful winter tidings have passed us by, and it is time to celebrate! Merry flower-bedecked hordes of friends, strangers, and former enemies are invited to descend upon The Island this May Eve.
A blazing bonfire! Abundance! Merriment! Summer nights! Fireflies! Chilled sun tea! Bouquets! We will have all of these things and plenty more!
The festival of Beltane is an important one to those who keep with modern witchery, and therefore, I've got some sacred storytelling and a ritual (led by yours truly) planned for dusk (around about 8pm). If you would like to take part in a traditional non-secular Beltane ritual, please arrive sober, bearing flowers or herbs at around 6 or 6:30, ready to engage in contemplative conversation and joyous observation of the passage of winter.
If organized spirituality ain't your bag, please show up for the all-night Beltane party at around 9pm. Bring some wood or incense for the fire, a musical instrument, friends, and perhaps a little something to share in the way of food or drink. Ancient Celts dressed quite elaborately for this shindig, and you are invited and encouraged to do the same.
Traditional elements of Beltane include: blooming flowers and herbs, cultivating attitudes of joy and forgiveness, celebrating health and vitality, honoring and blessing growing crops, and partnership rituals (you will have a chance to jump the bonfire with your beloved if you wish). Good-humored explanations of all ritual segments will be offered upon request.
ALL ARE WELCOME, IF PEACE BE IN YOUR HEARTS.
