Independent films of the caliber shown at the Sundance Film Festival are more than entertainment. They are compelling, artistic works that invite us, as the audience, to be more than spectators. They invite us to respond mentally, emotionally, and practically, searching for constructive actions to address the issues presented. The filmmakers help us see the world with a different set of eyes, exploring the human condition with creativity, compassion and respect. They inspire us to find ways to make a difference in the world and in our local communities. The Windrider Forums are about sharing these films and creating an environment for thoughtful dialogue between the filmmakers and their audiences. Windrider Film Forums are now held in Colorado Springs, the San Francisco Bay Area, Canada, Milan, Rome, Tuscany, and Prague.
The Windrider Film Forum debuted in January 2005 at the Sundance Film Festival as an immersive experiment to inspire conversation between filmmakers and audiences. The forum was structured around the Sundance Film Festival and its unique experience—the film forum became the classroom; the films the courses; the filmmakers the professors.
Windrider creates space for conversation to begin and then continue long after the forum is over. Last April, we successfully piloted the Windrider Film Forum in the Bay Area. The goal was to bring the films and the filmmakers to our community and replicate the Sundance experience right here at home.
