Governor Dannel Malloy is coming to Madison on May 7 to present opening remarks for a blue-ribbon panel sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven in partnership with Madison Cares. Entitled "Building Community in Changing Times – The New Role of Nonprofit Partnerships", the panel will be held at 7 pm at the First Congregational Church on the Green in Madison. It will be moderated by WTNH anchor Ann Nyberg.
Deborah Heinrich, recently appointed by Governor Malloy to a cabinet-level position advocating on behalf of nonprofits, will open the event. Joining her on the panel will be Nancy Roberts, President of the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy, a statewide association of grantmakers that serves as the hub of philanthropy in Connecticut; Thomas Fanning, President and CEO of Ability Beyond Disability, who has dedicated over 30 years to helping those with disabilities become active members of society; and Michael Maguire, co-founder of Madison Cares and former member of the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven.
Times are tough. Resources are limited. Can nonprofit organizations go it alone? How will new models of partnership among nonprofits, the private sector and the government reshape how we give back to our society? Can a strategic partnership even work without an inspired and driven individual leading it? How can we do things better than we have in the past? Come hear Connecticut leaders as they explore these issues—and join the conversation.
