NYC-CHI, New York City's largest and oldest user experience and usability organization, is coordinating a first-annual "Best User Experience" event as part of NYC's Internet Week 2011. The event will be hosted in conjunction with the NYC chapter of the Usability Professionals Association (UPA) , the NYC chapter of the Interaction Design Association (IXDA) and the NY Chapter of the Information Architecture Institute and the Information Architecture Meetup Information Architecture Meetup.

User Experience (UX) is an under-valued and often-misunderstood discipline that often gets mis-categorized under "design". While good functional design is an essential part of good user experience and possibly a viable categorization in the broadest sense of the term, user experience goes beyond visual design (page layouts and styles) to incorporate product and business strategy, effective implementation of technology, valuable content, logical user interactions and particularly usability - ease of use, adoption of emerging standards, intuitive navigation, and efficacy for the user in being able to accomplish his/her target goals.

Our aim with this event is to significantly raise the stature, understanding and awareness of UX as a critical part of the Internet and software development process and an essential element for success for any technology product or service in an ever-more-sophisticated consumer marketplace. How does a technology offering stand out from the crowd of iPhone apps or competitor websites and services? It all comes down to good UX.
