Designspeaks has set out to introduce and re-acquaint. To inform and engage. To gather and celebrate the most intriguing design thinkers and practitioners in our region. To kick off our 2011 season, we are delighted to invite you out for an evening with Portland's own, The Felt Hat.
You've come to rely upon Designspeaks for its diversity of speakers; each having shared their own unique perspective on design. From Byron Ferris to Jelly Helm, Aaron Draplin to Frank Chimero, Modern Dog to Patrick Coyne. Remember the public speaking debut of Official Manufacturing Company? Of course you do. And now it continues on May 19th with The Felt Hat. Join us.
Admission: $30
Students: $12
Don't let the absurdly low price of admission hold you back. The beer and wine is free, after all.
A selection of light nibbles, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. As if that isn't enough, we'll be giving stuff away. Want to know more? You'll just need to show up. Besides, unless you're generally foul-tempered or afraid of insanely handsome crowds, you will have a wonderful evening. We promise.
Space is limited, so reserve your spot now.

Planning to Attend? Please include your full name and whether you are a student or an AIGA member. Reservations will close on Wednesday, May 18th at noon.

About The Felt Hat
Since 1997, The Felt Hat has quietly created some of the most thoughtful and inspiring work in the Pacific Northwest. The northeast Portland collaborative has completed hundreds of commissions for clients ranging from Stanford University, Skylab Architecture, Rejuvenation, Mario's, Museum of Contemporary Craft, lucy activewear, W Hotels, the lumber room, and The Portland Armory Theater (not to mention most of the best brewers, arts organizations, retailers, and craftspeople around).
Descriptions such as "direct, open-minded, collaborative, refined by research, business-minded, and intuitive" merely scratch the surface. Designers can relate to each of these terms, but The Felt Hat is different by every measure. Their approach to design thinking and practice is compelled by curiosity, and the evening promises to be one of exploration.

About Designspeaks
Designspeaks exists to encourage people to talk about design. Not to pat backs or inflate egos, but rather to invite discussion, or even to encourage dissent. And if a few people become inspired along the way, so much the better. Design is culture and experience. The quarterly speaker series is about confronting issues, realizing opportunities, establishing context, and celebrating a sense of place. Design is here, Portland.
We're expanding our purpose to explore Design (with a capital D) within the multidisciplinary: architecture, brand, communications, experience, film, fashion, graphic, and industrial. To establish an interface within the context of real life. To support the most compelling regional voices in design. To talk it through.
