The Footprint
Juttas are each individually hand-crafted by artisans in India. They are of extremely high quality and use premium leather and stitching at the seams (no cheap glue or rubber.) We carefully select the best ones in Delhi and ship them to you, here in the United States.
The Founders
Iris Braunstein, Ling Lin, Liz Altmaier, and Amelia Mango are four girls linked by two very important qualities: an appreciation for unique, stylish footwear, and a devotion to improving the lives of women laborers around the world. In founding Jutta, we saw an opportunity to put our collective interests together--Jutta links women laborers in northern India with customers in the United States. By selling jutti, traditional Indian shoes made by hand of high-quality leather and silk, we offer something to the women of both nations--a fair wage for the women who make the shoes, and for their customers, the chance to make a style statement and a global impact at the same time.
Juttis (joot-eez) first appeared in south and central Asia during the Mughal dynasty. These traditional Indian shoes were originally worn by Mughal maharinis (queens). The color, embroidery, and beading on each pair of juttis demonstrated their maker’s skill, and thus the wealth of their wearer.
These are not just shoes: they are a symbol of your connection to art and history, and they are a means of economic empowerment for the female artisans who handcraft them in India today.
We all deserve to feel beautiful and powerful, whether we are born in New Delhi, New York, or elsewhere. With the help of other globally minded women, Jutta shoes mean that no woman has to walk alone.
Come meet this founders! We would love to meet you.
