A good user-centred design process brings teams together to focus on a single goal: making customers happy. Regular user feedback and an inclusive, collaborative approach to design makes teams happier, more productive and more successful.
Two experienced UX practitioners will share their insights into user-centred design and usability testing in real world digital projects.
Plus you'll have a chance to meet and get drunk/swap war stories with other people who care about UX in Cape Town.

Breaking down silos: Lessons in building better software through collaboration
Why do we so often see web applications with inferior user experiences? Why do UX designers often get stuck being asked to "make the design pop a little more," with no room or incentive to innovate? Why do some web developers feel demotivated and unable to break out of doing things the way they've always been done?
In this talk we'll explore some of the main reasons why software projects produce poor user experiences, and look at practical ways to improve team structures and design/development processes.
We'll discuss how to ensure everyone gets input into the roadmap without it becoming chaos, and how to make sure that the business benefits are clearly articulated and communicated. This is going to be fun!

More issues in a usability test can sometimes be better
Iterative usability testing keeps digital teams focussed on real customer behaviours. As the iterations go on, you can see the quality of the results change - from major failures and annoyances to preferences and ideas. You can actually see users starting to care more about your software as it gets better.
