You couldn't exactly blame the mainstream for missing it. Even though it was right under their noses on 6th Street... amidst the jell-o shot sports bars, dour 80's nostalgia nights and top 40 cover bands. Hiding in plain sight.
Those who came together there, from all the disparate threads of our fragile scene before then, found a home. Community, where before there had been just a crowd. Sanctuary, where there had been a constant search for "the right space." The sacred, where there had been hedonism (but yeah, hedonism stuck around too).
Finally there was one place... one sound... one word that said it all about Austin's electronic dance music scene.
Proteus.
Last October, after almost 15 years in the absence of the vibe that we all came to know and love, 500 of us reunited in Austin for another chance to feel it...and if you were there, you know how special that weekend was. Whether you attended in 2010 or not, we invite you to discover and share in the music, the people and the environment that made Proteus all it was.
Please join us on October 15, 2011 as we relive the magic that was Proteus and Barefoot in the Park, all day and all night.
Your favorite DJ's from Austin's golden age of house, breaks, techno, chillout and more are once again manning the decks for your entertainment, education and enlightenment.
But as always, the great vibes start with you. Whether you were down from day one or you're just discovering the sound of the underground, your presence is requested to make this year's reunion just as special. Either way, it's up to you to revive the magic...one more time.
