The Story—A young peasant girl, seduced and betrayed by a nobleman, dies of a broken heart and joins the ranks of the supernatural Wilis—women scorned before their wedding day and doomed to rise from the dead, taking their revenge for eternity.
A World Premiere Staging—Recent discoveries of original source material have allowed Pacific Northwest Ballet to closely examine early productions of Giselle and understand why this ballet resonated so powerfully with audiences of its time and continues to enthrall today. Artistic Director Peter Boal has assembled a team of artists and researchers to utilize these exciting sources in the development of a new staging of Giselle, bringing yesteryear to present day with a rich, meaningful production.
