Canvas8 is delighted to invite you to the latest in its series of free events for the media and marketing industry, exploring changes in people’s attitudes and behaviours. Canvas8’s recent ‘Keeping TABS Q2’ report identified an emerging desire among the digital generation to experience the unexpected. As the internet becomes increasingly personalised, brands are realising the importance of creating serendipitous moments for their audiences. Exploring the theme of Serendipity in a networked world, Canvas8 is excited to welcome Eli Pariser, author of The Filter Bubble and Anthony Erwin, CEO of StreetSpark. Personalisation of information is often cited as media's ‘Holy Grail’ and the key to advertising riches; but Eli offers a fascinating insight into some of its unintended consequences. As a respected author and a recent TED speaker, there are few people better-placed to understand the implications of curated content. For our second speaker, Anthony Erwin, founder of location-based mobile matching service StreetSpark, serendipity and chance encounters are essential. Anthony will explain how he plans to put the spark back into dating. Format and tickets Really straightforward; doors open at 6.30pm, with speakers to start at 7.00pm sharp. Tickets are strictly limited so if you can't make it please let us know by email or twitter @canvas8 About the speakers Eli Pariser Eli is an online organiser and disorganiser, former executive director of MoveOn (and now board president), a co-founder of Avaaz.org, and author of The Filter Bubble. The Filter Bubble: What the Internet is Hiding From You is a dissection of how we as consumers are changing the way we consume information. The internet is no longer a free, independent space. It is commercially controlled and ever-more personalised. The Filter Bubble reveals how this hidden web is starting to control our lives
