Hello friends,
As some of you have heard, I have a stealth start-up client that is creating a site that seeks to make wine recommendations fun, easy, more personal and shareable for what we call 'wine explorers'.
For our purposes, wine explorers are not enthusiasts nor collectors (there are already plenty of sites/resources aimed at them), but defined as people who enjoy wine on a regular basis either out or at home; who enjoy going wine tasting & trying new varietals, but don't know much about wine -- and don't necessarily want to. They just want a good wine experience at a good price (typically $10-20). They purchase most of their wine at Safeway, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Bevmo! - though they may belong to a wine club. They happily take wine recommendations, but may get overwhelmed by all the typical jargon, ratings & too many choices.
Kleintech's site, TasteJive, hopes to demystify wine recommendations by connecting it to emotions, memories & pop culture through 'visual tags' or 'wine metaphors' -- short, fun sound bites to which people can relate and will hopefully interact. For example: "This wine is voluptuous, spicy and ages well like Sophia Loren." or "This wine is rambunctious and playful like a yellow lab puppy."
When someone 'jives' (recommends) a wine, these tags are what will show up on Facebook and or Twitter, with a link to the recommendation. There is also a whole gamification element where users earn points/badges by writing and/or liking jives, and these will earn them discounts, special offers, invitations, etc...
I'm currently recruiting people that will become (at least in the short term) our TasteJive Crew - the panel of 'experts' that will become the main jive content creators during our closed/open beta period. These people will be asked to write 20-25 jives per month from late June-August (again, these are very short recommendations with visual tag) for wines. In exchange, we will pay $10 a jive. You will also retroactively be given points/badges once the gamification elements are added into the system.
If this sounds interesting, we are having a quick product demo/meet the team/Q&A with TasteJive Crew candidates Thursday, July 7th in SF at 6:30 PM. The meeting should last no more than 90 minutes and we'll be providing wine & snacks. No need to bring anything except an open mind & your valuable feedback.
If you can't make it to the meeting in the 7th but are still interested, let me know. We'll do a limited number of GoToMeeting presentations for those who absolutely can't attend a meeting, though the feedback experience is much better in person.
I appreciate all your help, as TasteJive only becomes fun with the participation of others. Please let me know if this sounds interesting and if you plan to attend the TasteJive Crew meeting, so I can plan & alert my client.
Best regards,
