Join the Campaign to Save Women's Health and Protect Choice
The My Health Matters campaign highlights why your health deserves to be protected and not denied. Federal legislation is threatening women's access to vital health care, including an unprecedented attempt to restrict abortion. The pro-choice movement mobilized to save the family planning program and funding for Planned Parenthood in the 2011 budget, in a momentous victory. However, the Republicans are gearing up for more cuts in 2012, and there are still proposals advancing in Congress that would:
- SEVERELY CUT MEDICAID and family planning: Medicaid supports a majority of federally funded family planning services across the U.S. 2012 budget proposals being put on the table by Republicans will slash Medicaid alongside other critical programs for low-income Americans. The Repbulicans already tried (unsuccessfully) to END all Title X family planning funding in 2011, which would have cost millions of women access to essential services like cancer screening, STI testing, prenatal care, and contraception.
- BAN insurance coverage for abortion on the health care exchanges and threaten to end all private insurance coverage for abortion, even when paid for with private dollars. (H.R. 3 or the misleadingly named "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion" bill is set to move forward in the House in early May.)
- LET A WOMAN DIE if a hospital has "moral or religious" objections to providing emergency treatment. (H.R. 358)
Tell Congress, the President, and the world why YOUR health matters, and how shutting down women's health clinics, blocking insurance coverage for abortion, and reducing access to birth control would impact your life. (Learn more about current anti-woman proposals here.)
"Right now, there are proposals on the table that will severly cut family planning in this country—that could shut down hundreds of women’s health clinics like Planned Parenthood...This is a discriminatory and even hateful attack on women’s freedom, and it will send us back decades. But we have a chance to stop it. Our allies in the House and Senate are speaking out, but we can’t leave it to them. We ALL need to speak up NOW to send our message that Our Health Matters. We invite you, women and men of all ages, to share your story today. Why does your freedom of choice matter? Why does your health matter?"
