A Preview of What to Expect
For too long, merchants were forced to pay credit card companies outrageously high fees for accepting customer credit cards. Jim will talk about how Square is looking to change all that with its signature white, square dongle which converts any iPhone into a point-of-sale credit card reader. Best of all, no fees for the reader and only a minimal 2.75% fee per transaction. Small merchants are flocking to the service - and, unsurprisingly, Square just received additional funding at a $1 billion dollar valuation. A must-attend Founders Talk for anyone interested in commerce and groundbreaking consumer technologies.
Jim McKelvey co-founded Square in 2009 and serves as its Chairman. He is the author of the #1 textbook on Glassblowing - and has been a glass artist for 20 years. He is the founder of the nation's top private glass studio (
www.stlglass.com). He is the founder and president of Mira Digital Publishing, a 22-year old firm specializing in publishing scientific research. He has published two textbooks on computer programming. He has degrees in Computer Engineering and Economics form Washington University in St. Louis.
