I guess Angelina's adopted children did a rain dance to wash out our party on June 4th. Perhaps we'll have better luck dedicating the this one to another actress with a birthday on the day of the event. How about Jessie Jane?
There is a gorgeous beach where we can do just about anything (except fireworks). So, let's go Saturday, July 16th to burn a truck load of wood, food, our livers, and other combustibles.
Last year we celebrated in the same location with over 150 people representing at least a dozen countries with a theme and dedication to the Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajökull.
Plan to arrive at 4pm to collect driftwood and help set up or we won't have much of a fire. Last year we finished off all of the smaller logs and some of the tree stumps. This year will be the stumps that were too heavy for us to move last year and whatever else we can find. We'll definitely need help collecting firewood if this is going to surpass last year's blaze. (Anyone have a chain saw?)
The die-hards will sleep on the sand. -But you’re welcome to bring a tent, or leave whenever.
STUFF TO BRING:
- Food, (bonfire friendly grubs, like a whole pig or an ostrich)
- Drinks, DO NOT bring bottled beer because the glass bottles are a pain in the ass to carry out. Other than that, anything is game. (And since Sushi won't be representing Paris I would like to see someone class things up with a nice box of wine.)
- Trash bags, there are no trash bins on the beach, so plan to pack out everything you bring) LEAVE NO TRACE.
- Flash light
- Good shoes (There is a bit of a hike to get to the spot, so wear flip flops at your own risk and don't say I didn't warn you.)
- Work/gardening gloves (to collect firewood)
- Machete (to slice up the pig and fend off any predators)
- Sleeping Bag (unless you're so hard core that you'll sleep right on the sand)
- Bathing suit (if you are REALLY hardcore, 2 years ago, some guy went to train for the triathlon in the dark)
- Musical instruments (flammable or non)
- Towel/blanket (unless you don't mind a little sand in your...)
There is a 5 minute hike down to the beach, part of which includes some guide ropes, so bring good shoes and use backpacks to carry your stuff down to the beach, and any trash back out.
Feel free to pass the invitation on to your friends.
REMEMBER:
- Good shoes, or you’ll regret it.
- Leave no trace. Depart with everything your brought. Come with trash bags.
- Come help collect firewood or the fire is going to be lame.
- No glass beer bottles. Period.
- Backpack. The way up and down with ropes is difficult if you don’t have at least one free hand.
DIRECTIONS:
The beach is located on Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) about 2.5 miles north of Hwy 84 and just south of Tunitas Creek Road.
Coming from 280 (suggested unless you live on HWY 1 or 84):
Exit 92 west to HWY 1 south.
Drive about 8.4 miles south on HWY 1. After you pass Tunitas Creek Rd. and a bridge, you’ll see a turnout with a car or two parked… park there. In front of you should be a cliff overlooking a gorgeous beach. If you hit 84 (La Honda Rd.) you went too far (by about 2.5 miles).
There are a few paths down the cliff. The easiest is the one furthest to the South... it's near the very end of the turnout. Once you get to the bottom of the cliff, we’ll be at the right/north end of the beach (closer to the firewood). Should be about 5-10 minute walk from the base of the cliff. Come celebrate, pop open a bourbon or beer.
