On Thursday, July 14th the Iranian Jewish community of NY will be having a very distinguished guest.

This guest is Professor Zohar Argov.

Professor Argov has made a major contribution to the Iranian Jews in the world. Back in 1984, Professor Argov was able to recognize a particular muscle disease that is common among the Iranian Jewish community, and about 10 years ago (in 2001) his team was able to identify and associate the gene causing this disorder. And in the last 10 years, he and his associate Professor Stella Mitrani-Rosenbaum have been dedicating their time and effort looking for a treatment for this disorder.

This disorder is called HIBM (Heredity Inclusion Body Myopathy), a genetic disease that leads to progressive muscle weakness, and thank G-d today it is preventable by counseling and there are hopes for treatment for unfortunate patients.

Professor Argov will be here to explain and talk about how this disease can totally be prevented and what steps can be taken so that no Iranian Jew will ever be born with this disease again.

Additionally, he will be talking about the promising strategies that are currently being taken globally to treat the disease, and how close scientists are to it.

Please note, he is not coming here for any fundraising -- he is only coming to increase awareness -- and the community will take this opportunity to honor him on July 14th for the contribution that he has made to Iranian Jews around the world.

All of us must feel obligated to our children and grandchildren, because it is our duty to have this disease prevented from ever happening again, and our obligation to support Professor Argov to go after the treatment.

We encourage all the Iranian Jews to attend this 1.5 hour event and show our support and appreciation.
