We're getting the band back together!
We've had 230 CloudCamps over the past 3 years ... thanks in part to CloudCamp PDX organizers like Alex Williams, Thomas Lockneyand others. Of course there have been many changes and Cloud Computing has become main-stream. And with these changes, CloudCamp has focused more and more on the needs of the Enterprise (private clouds, security, etc.) and event the Government (standards, regulations, etc.). And while this is a sign that Cloud Computing has arrived, its not so good for everyone. After reading some recent tweets and speaking with some campers, I decided that one way to keep the edge is to create a new camp with a new name ... ScaleOutCamp. ScaleOutCamp is exactly what it sounds like. An unconference where we can discuss platforms, tools and services that help us scale-out our apps. 10gen, Gluster & Tropo jumped on board to support this first event and a very special thanks to Puppet Labs for providing us the venue. Lucas Carlson of PHPFog is going to lead a breakout session and I'm expecting many, many more. Of particular interest is PaaS. I'd love to have a discussion on OpenPaaS in particular. If you are interested in the emerging PaaS software category, please let me know. A bunch of us are going to have a session on what makes a good PaaS platform. So I hope you will join us at the first ever ScaleOutCamp. And if you're ready for more, ScaleOutCamp #2 has already been planned for Aug 23rd in Silicon Valley.
For Lightning Talks, we invite the community to submit 5 minute talks (please send proposals to dave@platformd.com). All talks must be related to Scaling Out.
