JOSEP VILAGELIU
Barcelona-born filmmaker Josep Vilageliu has developed an important part of his career in the Canary Islands, thus becoming a constant figure in the last four decades as both witness and agent in the most important moments in the evolution of Canary Islands modern cinema. Thus, Vilageliu is an active participant in crucial historical moments in the evolution of film making in the Canary Islands such as the “cineist movement” linked to the first amateur directors and the Yaiza Borges group. Likewise, his most recent works may be related to the so-called “light cinema.” Therefore, his work is an example of commitment and coherence, and his principles can be identified as the constant consideration of film language's limits, a yearning for experimentation, and an indefatigable obsession with images.
