On June 1, 2012, 50 fellow friends and I will embark on a 70 day journey to inspire and help those who are affected by cancer. How will we do this? My teammates and I will CYCLE 4,556 miles from Austin, Texas all the way to Anchorage, Alaska! We represent the 2012 LIVESTRONG Texas4000 for Cancer Team.
Texas 4000 is a non-profit organization at the University of Texas at Austin, created by a student in 2004 who suffered from cancer himself and decided to combine his passion of cycling and fighting cancer. Every summer since, Texas 4000 has been sending students on a mission to spread hope, knowledge, and charity throughout the United States and Canada, making it the longest charity ride in the world.
Half of us will make our journey through the Rockies, and the other half along the California coast. In each community we cycle through, we will make cancer awareness presentations, helping to educate people on cancer prevention and early detection. We will also speak to cancer victims with hopes to support, encourage, and inspire them.
Each rider is responsible for raising a minimum of $4,500. That is approximately $1 for every mile we ride. The money we raise goes towards cancer research. In the organizations history, over 2.4 million dollars have been donated to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the leading center for cancer research.
In order to reach our lofty goals, we need your help! There are many ways to get involved in my fundraising campaign:
1. Message me your home address/contact information so I can send you more information about the ride and how to contribute.
2. Donate Online

3. Donate by Check

4. Give in person. I would love to hear your story and dedicate this journey to you or a loved one.
5. Please invite your friends to this event to help spread the word.
If everyone I invited to this group gave just $10, I would surpass my fundraising goal. Every bit helps and I appreciate it all!
We dedicate each day of our journey to someone we know who has dealt with cancer. I would love to hear your story and remember you or your loved one along the way. You can also find out more information by going to our official website
http://www.texas4000.org.
We ride to spread HOPE that one day we will find a cure. We ride to increase KNOWLEDGE about how you can help prevent cancer. We ride to raise CHARITY in order to make these feats possible.
Thank you so much for your support! Without you, this would not be possible.
Cheers,
Meryl Carey
