History:
August is a blessed month of total laziness and ease. Just far enough from last school year to feel relaxed, and yet close enough to the next school year to be exciting. About a decade ago, after many hours of watching reruns on Reading Rainbow, I realized there were no major national holidays in August. Between patriotic 4th of July and glorious Labor Day, this month just seems to have been left out of the holiday loop. Sympathetically, I decided to create my own holiday and has been a family tradition ever since.
Observation: First Thursday morning in the month of August.
