Update 8/17/11...It's Official!
"Dear Roland,
Congratulations! I've approved your TEDx event and granted your TEDx license -- you are officially a TEDx organizer! The TED team and I are thrilled to have you aboard the TEDx program."
We are currently organizing the first-ever TEDxVenice conference, tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 4 (a First Friday) at 7 PM at The Distillery in Venice.
The theme will be: "The Art of Science, The Science of Art."
Our speakers will comment on the interrelationships between visual arts, music, and the science behind visual and musical perception.
The tentative lineup of speakers is as follows:
-JR, street artist (winner of last year's TED Prize)
-James Cameron, director
-Dr. Robert Greenberg, inventor of the "bionic eye" which restores sight to blind people.
-A well-known figure from the music world
-Dr. Roland Eavey, Chief of Ear Nose & Throat at Harvard/Vanderbilt, expert on the science of hearing
Per TED laws, this event can host a MAXIMUM of 100 guests.
We believe that these 100 spots should be given out to those passionate enough about TED and Venice to be willing to help with the event in some way. Leftover seats, if available, may be allotted to additional friends.
The event will require a dedicated team for organization, promotion, setup, cleanup, etc.
Please write on the wall of this event what role you might want to play. Be creative in ideas, please. The above list of roles is not exhaustive, and any novel ideas you may contribute are more than welcome.
Please do not share this event with others, UNLESS you are confident they would be willing to help out with the event. You have been invited because of your geographical or spiritual proximity to the event. We anticipate well more than 100 people will be interested in attending and are trying to limit our live audience to a passionate core of individuals. Others can view the event on livestream etc.
Thank you all so much for your help,
Roland
