A Mid-Autumn Festive Evening of Classical Chinese Art and Music
For over two thousand years, the Chinese have celebrated their Thanksgiving holiday, the Mid-Autumn Festival, every August 15th on the Chinese lunar calendar. Friends and family unite to celebrate the year's harvest and express friendship and gratitude.
"海上升明月,天涯共此時"
--"Above the sea, the full moon rises. Far away, the world shares this moment."
The moon on this night, regarded as the fullest and brightest, has been the subject of beautiful poems and legends passed down through the generations.
Join us in celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival!
We'll appreciate exquisite classical Chinese music played on the Erhu, a traditional Chinese two-string violin, by Ms. Mei Xuan, an Erhu musician from Feitian Academy of Arts California, and a previous soloist from the world-renowned Shen Yun Performing Arts in New York.
A Chinese calligraphy master will do a demonstration of Chinese calligraphy.
And we'll hear an inspiring and thought-provoking talk from Mr. David Zhang, news anchor from Channel 32 with New Tang Dynasty TV, about the essence of traditional Chinese culture.
Delicately delicious Chinese Dim Sum from Yank Sing, a top Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, and Japanese sweets from Minamoto Kitchoan will round out the evening.
Special appreciation goes to our Chinese cuisine sponsor, Yank Sing, and our Japanese treat sponsor, Minamoto Kitchoan.
