Hi!!!
Last week we had a very nice discussion starting with the question "If a full moon falls on Sunday, on what day of the week will the next full moon fall?"
And it went quite nicely! One of the participants had the following to say:

Hi!!!
Last week we had a very nice discussion starting with the question "If a full moon falls on Sunday, on what day of the week will the next full moon fall?"
And it went quite nicely! One of the participants had the following to say:
"I love the from-the-ground-up approach, imagining I'm one of the ancients figuring out mathematics for the first time."
Anyways, you can read said discussion on
https://docs.google.com/a/thewe.net/document/d/1CIoEsfYOKMXWh1tPWqedo3HsegoCXyIkLb13kCrfAws/edit?disco=AAAAADzFHdU&pli=1 (please add comments of any kind, we will be happy to respond to them!)
If you find that discussion interesting, feel that you can get on a similar wavelength and you would like to see how it proceeds, you should join this class!!!

= About Organic Math =
We are trying to recreate what we see as a true mathematical process -- one in which we don't know the answers, or even if there are answers. We'll be stumbling around, not sure what to do. That's what mathematics is really like. At any point in the discussion if you have questions please feel free to ask (definitely including "I'm not sure what we're doing here" or such). You are encouraged to share half- or quarter-ideas at any point -- a lot of time none of us will know exactly where we're going. It's as if we are walking in some beautiful hilly open area -- there are some trails, and some of us have walked some of the trails more than others, but none of us have been to all points on all of the hills.

If you want to be able to effectively interact with our shared whiteboard you probably want to use a tablet. We recommend the $69 Wacom Bamboo Pen (
http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/BambooTablets/BambooPen.aspx) and have a few to share. We will happily meet and give them to interested people in San Francisco, just let us know.
