As 512 Underground's first official event, we will be hosting an AMATEUR MIXOLOGIST COMPETITION at Palm Door in downtown Austin. So for all of you out there who are even a tiny bit interested in mixology, have a knack for good tasting cocktails, like to experiment, or are always the one who gets stuck concocting cocktails at friends' parties, this competition is for YOU! A prize will be given to the winning amateur mixologist and your winning recipe will be posted on our Facebook page as well as discussed in the very FIRST addition of our monthly newsletter. Not to mention, you'll receive the title of 512 Underground's 2011 Amateur Mixologist Champion for an entire year!! You have nothing to lose! Now, for all of you who are more interested in drinking the cocktails rather than making them (myself included), we have plenty in store for you! There will be a cocktail themed ice breaker game with a take home gift, sampling of the top three submitted cocktail recipes and more, live voting of the cocktails to determine a winner, delicious food-bites provided by Pink Avocado, old school beats by DJ Boris, an eclectic retro photo booth, and much, much more! We're talking funky old school with a twist of lime here! Get the picture!??

Now here's the skinny --> People who RSVP (21 and older only) for the event will have priority access at the door, although it does not guarantee admission as space is limited. Walk-ins are welcome to attend but it is in your interest to RSVP to the event via this event page. So what are you waiting for?!?!

OFFICIAL RULES FOR THE AMATEUR MIXOLOGIST COMPETITION:

Each participant’s entry must be received via email to 512underground@gmail.com no later than Midnight CST on September 9, 2011. The top three (3) submissions will be selected, notified and announced by September 12, 2011. Only ONE entry per person is permitted.

The base spirit must be Tito's VODKA. Standard fruit juices and garnishes are permitted. Only products licensed with a distributor within the industry are permitted for use. (ie. home-made bitters and/or home-made simple syrups are excluded).

Cocktails should have a name, a list of ingredients and garnishes, instructions for how to prepare the drink, and clearly defined measurements — either a ratio, or shots / teaspoons / tablespoons / jiggers / etc.

Judging will be based on the following criteria:
1) Creativity of concoction
2) Originality of cocktail name
3) How well it tickles the tastebuds

Batching of the top three submissions will be prepared by TABC certified bartenders on-site at the Launch Party to provide for consumer sampling and voting.

The contest winner will be selected on-site at the Palm Door from 6-9pm on September 21, 2011. The scoring for the winning cocktail will be 100% consumer judging.

512 Underground will publish the winning entry and the two runners-up on our 512 Underground Facebook page immediately following the event.
