Last week to SIGN THE PETITION!
We currently have 384 names on our petition with
representatives from the classes of 1954, ’55, ’56, ’58, ’59, ’61,
’63, ’66, ’67, ’68, ’74, ’77, ’79, ’80, 85, ’86, ’87, ’88, ’97, ’98,
... an ‘04-’14. Truly inspiring and please sign if you haven’t already!
Your comments and testimonials have been heartfelt and deeply moving,
especially by some of our older alumnae who have kept the traditions
in trust for younger generations. You can read them all here
(http://tinyurl.com/MHCReunionPetitionTestimonials). Many people
commented on the big sister/little sister connection, relationships
with professors who wouldn’t be on campus for Reunion II, and
cementing alumnae together for years to come. Sadly, many people also
said they wouldn’t attend a 5 year reunion on weekend II.
Our ad hoc Reunions team spoke with Erin Ennis ’92 (Chair, Classes and
Reunion Committee; Chair, Reunion Review Task Force, 2010-2011). The
information she gave us as to why the changes to reunions were made is
posted here (http://tinyurl.com/MHCReunionLetterToOfficers). Their
decision was based primarily on review of attendance data and surveys
about alum’s reunion experiences. This info was also sent out to class
officers.
Their data is fair and accurate however we still believe that the
emotional and social impact of grouping the 2nd and 5th on Reunion I
holds sway. Additionally, some of the data indicate that the economic
recessions in the past 10 years caused neither an upward or downward
swing (http://tinyurl.com/MHCReunionLetterA) in reunion attendance.
We believe this means that the reunion groupings need not rely on
economic data but again on the emotional import of keeping young alums
together.
We will continue to collect petition signatures through this Friday at which time we will submit our official statement,
petition, and collected testimonials to the AA and other relevant
Mount Holyoke offices. Again, we believe that the Alumnae Association
has our best interests at heart, as we do theirs, and we hope that by
providing them this emotionally charged information we can keep the
alumnae of the 2nd and 5th year reunions together.
Thank you everyone!
