Following on from this Summer's extraordinary tour in six unique settings, including the rooftop of London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall under the lunar eclipse, London Folk promoters The Magpie's Nest and multi-faceted musical dudes God Don’t Like It are proud to present the launch of Mary Hampton’s new album ‘Folly’.
Mary’s previous recordings include two EPs of traditional songs, Book One (6 Songs of Refusal) and Book Two (6 Songs of Hunger), and an acclaimed full-length debut of original material called ‘My Mother’s Children’ (Navigator). “Folly”, her 2nd album is once again largely self-penned but this time concerned with the tension between idealism and folly. ‘Folly’ will be independently released by Teaspoon Records on 11th September 2011 and performed exclusively on Sunday 16th October at Cecil Sharp House.
“You can fish around for reference points - Incredible String Band, Lal Waterson, Kate Bush, Melanie and Anne Briggs all might qualify - but this is wondrously individual ” - Mojo ****
“songs, which recline with shimmering sensuality in various shady cloaks of weirdness…fragility, desolation and humour…scurrying around Dartmoor under cover of darkness.” - The Telegraph
Support comes from the wonderful Serafina Steer & Paper Cinema
