The McCully-Moiliili Public Library will hold their second Mini Con on Saturday, September 10, 2011, 10:00 am - 1:00pm. Meet local artists, participate in fun workshops and games, watch some animation, and sign-up to win prizes!
Come meet featured guests Audra Furuichi, Jon J. Murakami, and Kevin Sano, and find out what's coming up for these local artists. Furuichi is the creator of Nemu*Nemu, a webcomic about a pair stuffed animals that come to life and make everyday an adventure. Murakami is the creator of Gordon Rider, the absolute worst superhero in Hawaii! He is also known for his local-style greeting cards and has illustrated several picture books. Sano, a graphic designer and comic fanatic, has been in the t-shirt industry for over 25 years, and has made one-of-a-kind shirt designs that have sold for hundreds of dollars.
Members from the Pen & Ink Works group will kick off the program by giving a short drawing demonstration at 10:30 am. Pen & Ink Works is a newly-formed artist group that promotes manga and anime as an art form and method of creative expression. Members will also be available to talk with budding and experienced artists who are seeking guidance and assistance by reviewing their art.
The library will also be showing a variety of animation and give away free bookmarks and buttons. Cosplay is encouraged and those who dress up will receive a free special prize. Mini Con is sponsored by the Friends of the McCully-Moiliili Public Library, Collector Maniacs, Hawaiian Graphics, and Kawaii Kon. For more information about the program, please phone 973-1099.
