Texas Tech will open up the 2011 college football season and the 87th in school history on Saturday evening when the Red Raiders play host to the Texas State Bobcats. The Red Raiders are coming off an 8-5 season in 2010 which culminated with a 45-38 win over Northwestern (Big Ten) in the TicketCity Bowl in Dallas.
Texas Tech enters the season riding a streak of 18 consecutive bowl eligible seasons which is the fourth longest in the nation. Saturday's game against Texas State will mark the first-ever meeting between the Red Raiders and the Bobcats and is part of a two-game series between the schools. The Red Raiders will travel to San Marcos in 2012 for the season opener in what will be the first season for Texas State as members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
Kickoff on Saturday has been set for 6 p.m. (CT) and the game will not be televised.
