It has been 8 months since Joshua and I began our collaborative pieces together and we are extremely excited to announce the official dates and opening reception for our exhibition!
We will be exhibiting collaborations as well as our independent work. I will be showing figurative paintings and Joshua his expressive paintings of birds.
We are extremely excited to announce that Anna Stothart, Assistant Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston has written a beautiful essay about the work for our show invite. If you would like to have an invite mailed to you and we don´t have your address feel free to forward it to us. Below is a small excerpt from the essay.
Please, it would really mean a lot to us if you spread the word and forward this invite to your friends. We have been working really hard to make this happen and would love to share it with as many people as possible. Looking forward to seeing all of you!
"In Viejo and Durant’s collaborations, color and form take on new meaning as their styles combine, collide and explode. Birds, flowers, geometric shapes, and text are brought together to create a harmonious composition rich in color. The hand of each artist remains visible yet there is again a blurring of boundaries between the two. They manipulate the surface of the work building up layers of paper and paint and then scrape away creating expressive lines that resemble letters and words. Playing with light sources and positive and negative space, forms dissolve into a deeper exploration of abstraction."
