Without a doubt, Detroit is the birthplace of some of the most seminal records of all time; records which stand for whole musical eras – from Garage-Rock to Motown to Techno. On Monday, September 12, 2011, The Red Bull Music Academy World Tour will stop in Detroit to present “Motor City Frequencies” a groundbreaking week-long series of concerts, workshops, discussions and sound-inspired art installations that pay tribute to the city’s musical heritage and highlight some of the pioneers and visionaries that call The Motor City home. The Red Bull Music Academy will use Flat 151 to host hands-on, studio workshops and discussions with industry pioneers that reveal the technology and backstory of some of the most respected records to come out of Detroit. Featured artists include Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr., Carl Craig, Mad Mike, Juan Atkins, Dabrye, Amp Fiddler, Mike 'Chav' Chavarria, Wayne Kramer, Dennis Coffey, Ed Wolfrum, Marcus Belgrave, Phil Ranelin, Wendell Harrison and Nick Speed.

Select exhibitions will be coupled with unique performances and impromptu recording sessions. Two nighttime off-site events put the theory into action, with heavy dance floor excursions courtesy of 3 Chairs and a special Tribe Records showcase. Highlights from Motor City Frequencies will be showcased in both video and radio format on www.redbullmusicacademy.com and www.redbullmusicacademyradio.com.
