The NYC Famine Hackathon is a project of the 50/50: Make or Break Initiative to raise money for the famine in East Africa. 50/50 is a platform built to launch 50 fundraising projects in 50 days, with a fundraising goal of £1 million. 10 projects are already live - we hope to develop at least 5 more fundraising projects here in NYC, over the course of one weekend.
In collaboration with our sponsors, application monitoring solution AppFirst, and newly launched co-working space Grind, we're bringing folks from the startup and development community together with designers and marketers, fundraising experts and just good folks to develop and launch at least 5 fundraising projects over the course of one weekend.
If you've ever attended a hackday or startup weekend, you know the drill. Bring fundraising ideas to pitch on Friday, develop and vet them on Saturday, launch your fundraising project on Sunday. For thought-starters on fundraising projects you could pitch, check out the 50/50 blog or browse through crowdsourced ideas that gave a jumpstart to the initiative.
Don't know how to code? No problem - ideas can be created out of existing platforms, spread on social networks, or from scratch. Besides, while many in the start-up community know how to make stuff, we need people who know how to develop crowd-sourced, social, or fundraising initiatives. We also need people who simply care and will roll up their sleeves to help.
What we'll provide:
The brief - what the 50/50 project is all about, the approach, and the available tools & APIs
The location & sockets - graciously provided by Grind
Food & drink - provided in part by AppFirst
And server space for hosting courtesy of AppFirst
Who we need:
Developers!
Designers!
Marketing, business development, strategy people!
Nice folks - including those of you who know fundraising!
NYC is at its best when it comes together as a community and creates real solutions. Of course, dollars won't hurt either! We do hope that you help encourage others to give to at least one of the projects on the 50/50 platform. All donations go directly to UNICEF.
Space is limited - so while tickets are free, you must register to participate.
