The Butterfly Bar @ The VORTEX is delighted to announce Wednesday night Balboa Nights with The Jim Cullum Jazz Band and the Austin Lindy Exchange. VORTEX Producing Artistic Director Bonnie Cullum is thrilled to have her father, Jim Cullum, and members of his award winning traditional jazz band teaming up with dancers from the Austin Lindy Exchange for three Wednesday nights of music and dance.
The Balboa is a fusion swing dance that originated around 1915 in Southern California, developed as a response to overcrowded venues where it was close to impossible to perform aggressive swing moves.
The Jim Cullum Jazz Band is renowned worldwide for playing the classic jazz associated with King Oliver, Loius Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Bix Beiderbecke, among others. Based in San Antonio, the band has toured internationally including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap Farm, Newport Jazz Festival, Austin City Limits, and throughout the US, Mexico, Europe, and Russia.
Join us for live music, dancing, and drinks in The Butterfly Bar @ The VORTEX.
