Attention fans of the flea: As an encore to a super fun inaugural season of The City Flea, we are holding a one-time satellite market at the American Can Lofts in Northside on October 22nd! This event will be part of parProjects' "The Factory Square Fine Arts Festival" which will showcase large-scale public works of art, sculpture, and kinetic art, as well as a series of shipping container galleries. The arts festival will display the work of internationally recognized artists within the walls of the historic American Can Factory alongside an exhibition of local work curated by Northside's own Prairie Gallery.
The "Factory Flea" will be held inside the American Can's largest 'high bay' space which features clerestory windows, a forty-foot high ceiling, and a dormant 15-ton crane amongst its other raw industrial features. It is an amazingly dynamic space and we cannot think of a roofed space in the city that will make for a better place to hold an encore market. This space will hold even more vendors than our usual parking lot and will no doubt make for a exciting market environment for both vendors and shoppers.
The American Can Lofts, who will be celebrating their official grand opening the weekend of the 22nd, is an extremely important project for Northside, Cincinnati, and the country. A project that has put federal stimulus dollars to good use, it represents a neighborhood and city that are moving forward during a rough patch in history. This is one gorgeous piece of Cincinnati's architectural and industrial history that has not been erased- its spaces are unlike any other in the city and we cannot be more excited to be putting its largest to use.
