Why are the dancers so awesome?
They are brave, strong, and do what they want. They don't cave when haters hate. They ignore the haters and do what they love to do. It's not a hobby. It's not a way to be cool. It's part of living an awesome life.
Do I have a chance with that dancer?
No. Not a chance.
Why is there a cash prize contest?
We have invited several dance crews to participate in Dirty FKN Dancing and they have all thrown out pitiful excuses which translate to "We're chicken shit" in our books. We challenge any and all dancers in Missoula to form crews and take us on. You can challenge one of the resident dance crews: the Soledout Crew or the MissouBootyCrew. Any dance style is acceptable, just bring a cd or ipod with your music and bring it to the dj. Don't talk shit unless you can back it up. If you can, you will walk home with cash. The audience decides winner, with Tygerlily and Linkletter officiating the contest.
What is bounce music?
Bounce music is a kind of electro hip-hop that originated in New Orleans about twenty years ago. It is a highly sexualized and high-speed form of call and response music that encourages everyone to shake what their moms gave them. Although the shit is bangin' nobody ever heard it outside of New Orleans because the lyrics are either too dirty or too specific to the city for national distribution. Due to Hurricane Katrina, bounce music experienced a diaspora as NOLA residents relocated and took their love of bounce with them. Recently, queer bounce performers like Sissy Nobby, Messy Mya, Big Freedia, and Magnolia Mick found a way to translate the joy of bounce music and dancing to ALL KINDS of people of all walks of life. Anyone with a booty can shake it. DJ Tygerlily is the only dj in Montana and probably the northwest brave enough to play it.
Isn't it degrading women, doing that sexy dance?
Not at all. This dance is actually about liberating women and men to be sexy beings. We choose all aspects of the performance. We are in total control. If you are not participating in the dance, you are NOT permitted to touch the dancers of either gender. The breakdance floor and the stage belong to the dancers and they decide what you see. Bounce dancing is for the purpose of LIBERATING THE ASS. It is not easy, it requires practice, and those who are good at it deserve the credit. Telling another human how they can and cannot express their body is a form of oppression. We are actively liberating ourselves every time we do this dance. The women and men who have participated in bounce music in Montana are a core of independent and strong individuals who love dancing in all of its forms. If you are not afraid of your ass, why not have some fun with us?
Who is the ALF?
The Ass Liberation Front (ALF) is a core group of Missoula natives (townies) who are tired of people telling them that they cannot shake their booties. Their mission is to free the booties of Missoula, one ass at a time and have a great time doing it.
