What is Ignite?
IGNITE is an event format pioneered by geek publishers O'Reilly and is now present in over 100 cities around the world. Ignite presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of just five minutes, giving the audience a chance to listen to some funny, inspiring, and shocking presentations, bringing you something new and so fantastically random! We’ve been watching some of the videos from presentations given at various other IGNITE events across the globe and they are certainly impressive, take a look at some of them at igniteshow.com.
The very first Newcastle Ignite took place in February 2011 at the Centre for Life and was a huge hit. A dozen speakers gave great 'lightening' talks and Oli Wood's breakneck tour of the thousands of bookmarks he's collected over the years earned him the night's prize as our top Ignite speaker. Check out some of the photo's from the last event here.
The Line Up
The speakers brave enough to step up at this Ignite are...
Jo York - in addition to being Ki Media's Creative Director, did you know Jo is also an aikido brown belt and should become a black belt by the end of the year. Watch out!
Jonathan Gold - he's the founder of Finance Tree and is happy to talk you senseless about raising money :-)
Chris Stainthorpe - Chris is business partners with former senior Sage exec Guy Letts and is the CTO of CustomerSure who are looking to radically improve online customer feedback.
Paul Lancaster - one of the great supporters of young enterprise in the UK isShell's Livewire scheme which is run nationally out of Gateshead. The man behind their critical web presence is Paul Lancaster of Project North East.
Tristan Watson - speaking of Shell Livewire, Tristan won one of its 2010 Grand Ideas Awards which formed part of the early seed financing, helping get his promising online retailing startup Love Your Larder off the ground.
Ross Linnett - another young tech entrepreneur who is going places is Gateshead-based Ross Linnett. He's founded consulting firm ARCH (formerly UKC) and accessibility software startup Recite Me.
Daniel Kolodziej - PollMe is building smartphone apps that promise to help improve radically the market research business and Daniel is their Darlington-based CEO. Daniel is also a Visiting Professor at Teesside Business School in his spare time where he had the distinct honour of presenting Duncan Bannatyne with an honourary MBA.
Paul Mander - Paul's with NEPO, the North East Purchasing Organisation. NEPO have been in existence since 1976 helping to aggregate demand from 12 North East local authorities and drive better bargains from supplier. In an era where many of us are looking continually at business opportunities, Paul will undoubtedly shed some light on how small businesses can work with local authorities.
...and we still have another few talks in the pipeline...
