ABOUT THE SHOW
Written by Bernard Pomerance and directed by Brian Haimbach, The Elephant Man provides an insightful look into the life and times of Joseph Merrick, known in Victorian England as the "Elephant Man" due to his severe physical deformities. In 1890, at the age of 27, Merrick died from asphyxiation, a result of lying down (rather than sitting up) to sleep in what was perceived to be a final ill-fated attempt to “be like other people.”
Theatregoers will enjoy an emotionally riveting performance by actor
Christopher Joel Onken, who will play the role of Merrick without use of any prosthetics. The story helps us better understand the beautiful human being inside the disfigured body of the "Elephant Man," and how the people he encountered throughout his life treated and impacted him and how he in turn impacted them. The talented ensemble cast includes Jason Shipman, Phyllis Jackson, Stephano Andreas, Matthew Reece, Evan Harris, and Michele Labar. Robert Gowan of Wasted Wine is composing original music for the show.
